Our main ambition is to provide our clients with simple, useful and high performing solutions that enable them to meet their objectives and gain a competitive advantage.
Open Source is a new way of thinking in IT: freedom, mutual respect, social responsibility, transparency and openness.
From an economic perspective we strongly believe that open source technologies allow companies to really leverage IT as a supporting function. It helps them in achieving major productivity gains and being more efficient in their respective markets. We are convinced that the vendor lock-in is a major obstacle for competitiveness, innovation and investments in the core business. Our mission is not to fight proprietary editors, they brought valuable research, solutions and business ideas.
Open Source provides reliable solutions that are at least as content rich and efficient as their proprietary equivalents. Open Source solutions have rapidly spread out across the entire IT scale from eCommerce to ERP, from Business Intelligence to CRM, from Enterprise Content Management to Infrastructure, etc…
Open Source does not mean for free but the Total Cost of Ownership is much lower than with “traditional” solutions (5 to 10 times lower). The very large community (often several millions of users) provide the necessary robustness and exceptional product dynamism!
We invest a lot of time and energy in market analysis and research. We select the best products in the market and to gain a large expertise. We actively contribute to the community, for example: eZPublish developers all over the world use the Eclipse plug-in built by Smile. In 2008 our client INA has financed major contributions and extensions to SpagoBI product. We also massively enriched the Typo3 and eZPublish tools. Smile also steers specific Open Source projects like the connector Magento-OpenERP or the Web Assemble Tool, an efficient tool combining a content aggregator and a cache manager.
We are active members of the relevant Open Source associations and lobbying groups putting all parties together (government, communities, companies) in order to further promote the usage of Open Source Solutions.
